The Management Trainee Programme
Real responsibility from month one — and a senior who teaches you
A senior who teaches you
Every trainee has a dedicated senior lead who trains and mentors them throughout.
A defined career ladder
Trainee → Associate → Supervisor → Manager → Director, with a raise at every step. A parallel technical track exists for specialists.
The international track
Based in the Maldives up to three years, then transfer to Singapore, Dubai, London, Hong Kong or Los Angeles.
All roles begin with a six-month internship period. Pass the qualification check earlier and you’re confirmed sooner — the six months is a ceiling, not a fixed term. On confirmation your salary rises to the confirmed rate for your position.
What we look for

Before any ability is compared, we look at values: integrity and empathy. A candidate whose values don’t align is not a PNU hire at any level of talent. Every applicant is then scored on the same four criteria:

How we assess you
Three assessed stages — a combined weighted score
Professional language, logical reasoning and estimation, an unfamiliar-problem exercise, and written value scenarios. The paper is distributed minutes before the sitting.
A 30–40 minute structured conversation with two interviewers: your experience, a live problem-solving segment, and a personal conversation about your plans and values.
A half-day collaborative task with other finalists, observed by trained assessors. No script to game — we watch how you actually think and work with people.
On AI tools: Stage 1 is fully proctored and AI tools are strictly forbidden. From Stage 2 onward, AI tools are provided where relevant — we want to see how well you work with them.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a degree to apply?

No. Our Maldives positions are open to fresh graduates and to candidates who have passed A-Levels. An A-Level pass is a full qualification — it enters the same process, is assessed on the same criteria, and carries the same programme, training and transfer track. Degree and school together account for only 10% of the weighting.
I graduated two years ago. Am I still eligible?

The programme is designed for fresh graduates, but we would rather see a strong application than enforce a date. If you are early in your career and the role fits you, apply and tell us your situation.
Do I need work experience?
▸
No. We hire for potential, not for a track record. “Past experience and achievement” includes projects, self-taught skills, community work and anything you drove yourself — not just formal employment.
Is my English good enough?
▸
Language proficiency is 20% of the assessment — it matters, but it is not the largest factor. We would rather have a sharp thinker with functional English than a fluent speaker with nothing behind it. Several roles explicitly welcome candidates still improving their English.
What is the six-month internship period?
▸
Every role begins with a six-month internship at a defined internship salary — an assessment period on both sides. Pass the qualification check earlier and you are confirmed earlier; the six months is a ceiling, not a fixed term. On confirmation your salary rises to the confirmed rate.
Will I have to move to another island?
▸
Your base is Malé. Some roles — agriculture, solar, construction — involve extended postings to project islands, and this is stated clearly in those listings. Other roles are Malé-based with occasional short atoll trips.
Can I use AI tools in the assessment?
▸
Not in Stage 1 — the written assessment is fully proctored and AI tools are strictly forbidden. From Stage 2 onward, AI tools are provided where relevant. We want to see both: what you can do unassisted, and how well you work with modern tools.
How should I prepare for the written assessment?
▸
You cannot revise for it, and that is deliberate. There is no domain knowledge required anywhere in the paper — no major or degree gives an advantage. Come rested and think clearly.
What happens in the group assessment day?
▸
You will work on a collaborative task with other finalists for about an hour, observed by trained assessors who do not participate. There is no assigned leader and no script. We watch how you think, how you work with people, and how you behave when the task turns out harder than it looked.
How long does the whole process take?
▸
Approximately four to six weeks from application to offer for most candidates, depending on assessment day scheduling.
Is there an application deadline?
▸
No. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and positions stay open until we find the right person. There is no advantage to waiting — earlier applications are assessed earlier.
What happens after my Maldives term?
▸
Management trainees are based in the Maldives for up to three years. Based on your evaluation, you are then transferred to one of the group’s international offices — Singapore, Dubai, London, Hong Kong or Los Angeles.
